1927 ------ ISH A True story and a small miracle

Without Prejudice

In 1989 we bought my daughter, Lauren Jade Hancock the ISH album by 1927. She loved 1927. Lauren was 12 years old and a great girl. B my husband and I adored our baby girl of a family of 4 girls, she was just a unique child, loving, giving a true angel.

We were pretty well off and B was a sponsor of the Melbourne Football Club. So we were at an Auction night for the Club one night, bought the 1927 album among 5 others for the girls and that was that. Lauren loved it.

Later that year Lauren drowned in a stupid senseless accident that went above all comprehension and devastated us all.

About a year after her death I went to Parkmore Shopping Centre to close her school bank account. It was only a small account, not much money. But I wanted to be brave and close the account. Anyway the lady behind the counter told me that Lauren would have to come in herself in person and sign the withdrawal slip.

I couldn't speak, nor for a moment even breathe, I wanted to run, but I couldn't. I started crying,
"I can't, she died" I managed to utter, voice thick with tears.

The kind and shocked lady teller took me aside to a private office and the Manager was called. He calmed me down and fetched me tissues and was really sweet. He told me he would fix up the withdrawl and send it to me with the precious little bank book that I did not want to let go. Memories like that are irreplaceable.

A few months went by and I had moved to Queensland with my second oldest daughter Yvette and her son Kyle, aged 3. We were as broke as broke as broke. I had forgotten all about the little grey bank book by then.

A letter came for me to go to my bank, I had 2 cents in the account and we both had a few days before we were expecting any money. We had potatoes and bread and little else to get us through, we were doing it tough.

So I went to the bank, we had no car then. And there waiting for me was a little grey bank book, cancelled and all the money was transferred to my account. The amount from Lauren's bank account, $19.27. I bought milk and food with it and it saw us through till we both had money.

I still have that little bank book.
