To Our Own Robin Williams And Charlie Sheen

Without Prejudice

We have our own Robin Williams character in our family. He is and can be the most funny of men, caring, generous, wise and awful when he's addicted. He had two grandfather alcoholic grandfathers, an emotionally missing Dad and a Mum that would have given him anything.

Genetics in alcoholism are the most easily passed on gene. Luckily the genetics for depression by passed him, at least I think so. I know he has been in some very bad situations where he could have had suicidal thoughts! but he bounces back. He has given five fantastic boys life and they are unlike him, except we found there was one addiction passed on, gambling. A real pain.

But he has provided insight into the mind of an addict more than anyone.

For starters they are usually very intelligent. My daughters ex was top at Maths at his catholic school . In face he scored so well at his Maths Exam and was so naughty they made him sit for the exam again in The Principals Office. He scored higher. And proved the teachers wrong but was considered " impulsive, naughty, a pain " .

He probably had an ADHD personality as one of his sons had it and OCD, the worst case the Paediatrician had ever seen. My grandson was expelled from school at age 7. Luckily I saw all the signs and convinced my daughter to get him to a Paediatrician pronto. He is now a boy genius who has a strong self of self and despite being red headed has refused to give in to bullying all of his life.

But his Dad was untreated and at 14 was drinking a bottle of Jim Beam a day, was in trouble at school and robbed our Ferrari of stuff right out out of our driveway. My daughter, a rebel and unhappy teen joined forces with him and the more we turned him away the more she would hang around with him. Typical teen.

By the time he was 17 he was in jail for stealing with a friend, 144 cars.

But when I talk to him on his own he will take responsibility for all of his actions, he has been known to rob a couple of cans of alcohol, stick them up his jumper, leg it and then go back the next day to pay for them.

And been thrown out of the shop.

He is a hapless criminal, witness his periods of incarceration for the dumbest of crimes. He was once caught pushing a stolen car  by the Police.  Here is an opinion by Dr Drew on the sudden death of Robin Williams.

The death of Robin Williams has led me to this plea -- let’s loudly and seriously address something that’s still hidden, stigmatized and even ignored in this country: Mental illness.
