I'm Living In The Seventies

Without Prejudice

I found the sheet music in hard rubbish. I have turned into a skip diver, par excellence, as I chase up Vintage, Retro, Antique items from other eras. I mainly love fifties and sixties" stuff" as I am a Baby Boomer and like a lot of Baby Boomers I refuse to get old, but remain nostalgic, although now the kids are grown I am finding that not only do I refuse to get old but am entering into second childhood. Groovy.

The sheet music was but one piece and was printed in 1972, The Coca Cola song,

"I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing"

It's a song that plays on an endless loop inside your head but it was all a bit sugary and sweet for me with its Apple trees and honey bees and Snow White turtle doves. The whole world supposedly coming together in peace and harmony. By The NewSeekers. With American Singers on the cover.

By 72 my older brother had returned from Vietnam.

In the space of one decade I was single, engaged, married, and had all four of my girls. Six years four kids it was a wonder my uterus hadn't fallen out on the floor and my breasts hadn't come to resemble wind socks with a marble in the end. Oh, that's right they did. They looked like shrunken heads from Papua New Guinea and if I lay on my back the empty pathetic little teats would slide under my armpits.

Needless to say The Swinging Sixties passed me by. My husband at the time and I were bypassed for any Wife Swapping Parties. We did find out however that the Kids Fundraising Committee we were part of was having a whale of a time having them. And it was what we considered all the " Churchy" ones. Catholics to boot. We didn't know whether to be relieved or insulted we hadn't been asked. Relieved was my thought.

We heard through two sources that one of the most religious girls was having sex with the electrician wiring up their house whilst her husband watched from the window. He became so excited he fell and cracked his head on the concrete garden edging causing a gash to his head, a trip to the Hospital and an explanation to the wife.

We were asked to a Porn Film night and I was

Most of the rest of the music of the seventies was incredible. Countdown had begun and Skyhook's Living In The Seventies was our anthem. We had Summers of an Album and played it endlessly.Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, A Bat Out Of Hell, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd. I will not comment about him buying The Furies.
