Every Picture Tells A Story, Don't It ?

Without Prejudice

These two legendary British women, My Great Aunt Mary on left and My Aunt Betty on right, share almost two hundred years of great living between them.

Aunt Mary turned 105 the other day and Aunty Betty is 93.

They both run their own homes, dress smartly, enjoy the best of everything and are curious and love life.

They have been through the Great Depression, Second World War, and the loss of their husbands.

They are tough women.

They have faith, love, hope, kindness, compassion and ire.

Aunty Betty has to be one of the best cooks I have ever met. Her Yorkshire Puddings are to die for..

In the very old days in Yorkshire puddings were cooked in hot lard. Just before pouring the batter into Yorkshire tins, ( about 4" in diameter, traditionally, a handful of snow was thrown in. These days you can use ice cubes or icy water. Makes all the difference as the the batter will rise crisp and golden.

Then traditionally it's served with " ash" ( a thin meat gravy,) before the main meal.

Hot sauce like H.P. , Fathers Favourite, or Yorkshire Relish Brown Sauce ( a fruity brown sauce ) can be sprinkled on.

My brother eats his like pancakes with Lemon and sugar but his food habits are weird.

My Aunt Betty was a manager for School Dinners at one of the Grammar Schools in Wakefield. She loved her job and she loves feeding people in general.

Her lists are endless, of the culinary delights she will serve. If you refuse she will trot out the list.

" Apple Pie ? Home made."

Cheesecake ?, " I've made it fresh "

" Ginger biscuit ? "

" Parkin ?"

" Battenburg Cake "

She has to feed people, She can't help it, it is how she shows love.

I am so in admiration of my two Aunts. I hope I live as long .

They are typically no nonsense ladies, enormously practical. Humble, expect little and receive a lot.

May they prosper for more years to come xxx
