The Last Item On The List

WithoutPrejudice

I love lists. I always have at least three on the go, there's stuff I have to do, stuff I want to do and a backup list. When I was completely going out of my head trying to organise a trip overseas which included getting a new British Passport I had one big list. The last item was to relax and have fun.

I was obsessed for weeks with a lost birth certificate, ( note to ex pats, Scottish birth certificates now come from the Scottish Register, I am sure you used to be able to get them from Somerset House In London )  next year the Passport Office for British ex pats goes back to the U. K. It moved sideways for a while to New Zealand of all places.

There was not going to be too much of relaxing and having fun before I went but I looked forward to it Overseas. My Sister and I only had a two week trip, things were pretty hectic with Auntie and a trip to Paris, which was luxury plus but we never seemed to stop moving. Soon enough the trip was over, back to Oz and jet lag hell. I have no idea how the celebrities do all that travel, it must catch up with them sooner rather than later.

I am not kidding when I say it feels like I have only just recovered from the dreaded jet lag, and I have been home three weeks, but then I bounced my head on the floor in Brisbane, sustaining a big hard egg on the back of my skull. It still hurts and I scratched it mistakenly the other day and almost fell to my knees.

Not much fun and relaxation. Yet.

Since I have been home it has been non stop mayhem, sheer hard slog and not a lot of fun till now. At least the house is rocking thanks to our hard work and my unit also thanks to me. We have a great front garden, full of cars, of course. My grandsons Calais gives us street cred, Lola, the beautiful old Toyota, the Tuscan and my red corolla.

We have catnip growing for Nicholas, the cat. He needs it. Nasturtiums cover the "Fred Flintstone " cut logs that surround the mailbox and one tiny Rose lies under the water meter that we keep managing to run over and flattening. I had it replaced once as I had run over it and it kept leaking. The did it for free but the water man wasn't happy about it.

I am loving the gardening and have planted mint under the front tap so it is flourishing, ready for making into fresh mint sauce for Christmas Day. Yukkas as are taking hold near the fence, lavender nestles in amongst more nasturtiums. I have added a china cup and saucer, the ornamental garden kind that looks like it belongs in an Alice In Wonderland film set and planted Jade. The original plant they say but it brings money into your house near your front door.

To be continued
