Cooze and Placenta Previa. 2

Without Prejudice

The male Paramedic was looking hesitant and I said,

"you haven't delivered a baby before, have you ? "

He answered he had assisted at one and that was all.

" Right, looks like we are going to hospital then " I answered.

If Yvette hadn't been placenta Previa I knew the female paramedic and I could have delivered Yvette's baby but without assistance from the male we would be hobbled so they immediately whacked a Penthrox stick in her mouth, which started to slow down her contractions immediately, and we were out of the house and on our way.

I jumped in the back with her, the rain was bucketing down, the windows streaming on the outside, making a warm little cocoon for us girls in the back. The driver called out,

" Monash or Casey ? "

" Casey, we won't make Monash" I replied after glancing at Yvette's face.

So we raced along the roads, lights flashing, siren blaring, it was pretty hairy for a while. I had never been in a speeding ambulance before. We arrived at the emergency entrance in what seemed like only  seconds but was probably 10 minutes, and slammed through the doors and straight up to maternity. Cruz Nate came into the world one minute and 36 seconds later. Phew   !

The placenta very obligingly moving up and out of the way seconds before his birth. We stared at it after sitting as it was in a stainless steel kidney bowl and it was big fat and healthy, just as the baby was. He became the seventh of seven boys and like most babies of the family, is a happy babbling delight. Right from the first day he was a happy loving little boy, everyone loves Cruz.

I would hate to repeat that pregnancy again though. It was incredibly stressful being told from the get go about Placenta Previa, that Yvette could haemorrhage to death, the baby die. I know they have to prewarn you about everything these days but the stress it put on Yvette and the rest of us was incredibly unnecessary. So that's my daughter above with her seventh son, and she has 18 weeks to go to having her eighth. A little girl, praise The Lord.

Cruz is 3, a constant delight to all of us and loves everything and everyone in his life.
