Xmas Party Crown
Without Prejudice
We started celebrating on the Friday night when we knew that we were getting old friends, George, my brother, and Ivan would be meeting up the following night.
They had been in touch by phone and were delighted to hear from each other. Ivan very excited to be there and it was fantastic, reaaly good to see them together again. Same people now reaching the 60's and so much water flowed in between the years.
Marriages begun and ended, life changes, but they remain as the 19 year old boys they always were. They met at Bendix Consolidated in the old days, George who already worked there showed Ivan how to MIG Weld on the first day Ivan started as a "Newbie"
They remained fast friends ever after that, going off to the beach and St Kilda and the city. Ivan introduced George to his future wife, Karin. And we were all young and carefree then, I would have been 17 and with Bob, then. There was a whole group of us in Oakleigh in those days and it was fun. Dennis and Suzanne, Gracie, Ivan, brother to both Grace and Suzanne.
They were "wogs", Ivan called himself that anyway, a croatian. He was tiny and prefectly sculpted and great swimmer and "chatter up" of what he call "chicky babes". You can't take him anywhere where he won't fall in love mentally with at least 6 women, mentally.
Sadly, the "Honey Pies" don't respomd in kind to any of his old politically Incorrect overtures and don't even bother to roll their eyes at him. Just ignoring with wintery cold glances and nothing else. Ivan is nothing if not perverse and despite entreaties from the rest of us continues to be his old self.
Mara and I are in stitches at his behaviuor and try to keep our faces composed. Ivan is deaf in one ear anyway and probably can't hear us as we laugh. He gazes up at George in admiration and supplication. worshipping at the feet of the highly successful business man George has become.
In the old days, Ivan was the mover and shaker and George was the quiet and withdrawn one. Time has changed everything and George is at the top of his game and Ivan is not. Ivan giving up work just recently and is quite depressed about it.
He likes to stay busy Ivan and he is idle and not happy about it and asks George how he did it. George tells him about successes and failures.
"Hard work", is George's answer.
"Just plain sheer hard work"
And the next day Yvette and I get ready for the Crown Xmas Party. I had to do her roots last night and we didn't finish until 3am. So I am tired and a bit emotional.
But off we go to Crown in the "Tardis", Yvette's Tarago Van. eating up the miles and checking our makeup. The Crown is fabulously decorated for Christmas and we go off into the main ball room. drink in hand and I am stunned by the pink flamingo decorations.
There are massive Gingerbread houses and we take photos in front of them. We can take photos of ourselves in disguises in an old fashioned photo booth, where the photos plop out the side of the machine.
The entertainment is great, there are more "dress up" accesories on the table and we take more photos of us in hats and crazy glasses. The theme is Pink Flamingo, and there are platic ones as centrepieces and hot pink feathers.
Yhe Chairman of the board in the Casino is a woman. An older woman, quite plain and seems ordinary until she heads the major Draw for the 1st Prize of a million dollars. Then you realise how she is the Chairwoman as she is tough but personable. And a woman to boot which I just love.
I imagine it's a delightful job and stressful.
A Queenslander man wins $50,000 and we are cheering for him. The food has been excellent and I drink champagne and red wine and beer and I do that on an empty stomach. Enjoying the food and even more the alcohol.
Yvette wants to stay on after the festivities are over and I don't. I go to the car after cracking the shits and fall asleep on my handbag beside the car. On the concrete and a man stops and asks if I am alright and I wake with a start.
I text george to tell him I am passed out next to the car and I find them coming out of the lift. Yvette is complaining about me and my stubborn nature and I tell her I just want to go HOME and NOW. I should never drink, ever, turning into a complete bitch when I do.
On the way home I tell Yvette I am tired of being on facebook very time one of them has a beef with me and yell her not to be on it as soon as we get home. We drive home in blessed peace and I go straight to my unit and fall asleep for about 3 hours, pissed and pissed off.
Taking panadols and lots of water with me.
I wake up and can't believe I fell asleep beside the car and what an idiot I am, trying to make "All the little birdies in the tree" get along. I realise how they are all so un alike, my girls, but I love them anyway. And if they fight, they fight. All are fighting with Mara at the moment and I know Mara is ok. I still love her even if she has done things wrong.
Who doesn't ????
So it was a great weekend and they all had a good time, me too much of a good one, I think, but the photos remain and we look great and havinmg a ball and the cranky me with too much alxohol ( and drinking champers on an empty stomach is never a good ide) that stupid thing aside it was fabulous.
Love Janette
