Chapter one
When I was just 17 I went to see HAIR, the tribal rock Musical of the 60's and early 70's. Too vain to wear my hated glasses I must have been the only person in the world to miss the nude scene.
It was the dawning of the age of Aquarius, a time of peace and love until it all went to hell when drugs and excesses ruined it all. The Hippies had the right idea, love one another and live life in Peace and Harmony. But evil is a part of life and evil came to being in the body and mind of Evil Incarnate, Charles Manson.
LSD instead of opening minds and creating higher consciousness as was at first thought, ( who can forget Timothy Learys adage to " Tune In, Turn on, Drop Our" ? ) became for some a living or dying nightmare. People walked off the tops of buildings, one man drilled a hole in his third eye, the middle of his forehead. And Charles Manson started his cult, The Family.
Commune living was supposed to be a better answer to living healthily. Instead of the suburbs " Little Boxes " the Social Experiment of communal living and loving was tried and unlike the Kibbutzes in Israel was found wanting. We are all human, and infighting, idealism, isolation and drugs took their toll on the communes. And with Charles Manson, a mad man, who was a self style leader, things began to take bizarre, violent, and even murderous intent.
He carved a Swastika in the middle of his head. He had disciples, young believers that followed him, making him more powerful and yet too squeamish to do his own killings. His Disciples were the killers, his own disciples of hate. Who can forget those girls walking down corridors of courts singing, arm in arm, killing off the Hippy ideology forthwith and branding them feeble minded and disgustingly evil.
At Charles urging they stabbed to death innocent people. One a beautiful actress, Sharon Tate heavily pregnant with her first baby was stabbed and her baby cut out of her body. It was a gore fest of the worst kind. The word PIGS scrawled across the wall in the victims blood. I will repeat the perpetrators of these shocking killings were women, young women.
High on drugs and Charles impassioned rhetoric they were more sadistic and cruel than men.
There was no Age Of Aquarius anymore it was Helter Skelter all the way.
