How To Clean A House In 30 Minutes By A Five Star Cleaner
Without Prejudice
I was once a Sheraton Hotel Maid, on the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia. It was the only work I could get at the time and I would have done anything for my 3 year old Grandson, including cleaning other people's toilets. I lived with my daughter and her son and as a place to live, we both agree, it was one of the best places and times of our lives.
I began ten days of training to learn how to clean Five Star at a Golfing Resort, before Sheraton. It seemed an interminable time to clean one room but perfection was expected from Hotel Guests. First you learn how to clean meticulously and then you have to turn up your speed. It's hot heavy hard work but the teams were fantastic and there were little perks you didn't expect.
So I can now clean a small house ( mine ) in thirty minutes and a double storey in three hours.
The longest clean is the initial one and for that you have to put in a lot of elbow grease and a few hours. Rope in the kids or significant others and make it a game. Kids and others respond to fun more than rewards.
" Make it fun and the job gets done"
Bribes can help too, with the kids.
Thirty minutes per day is maintenance. Think of it as a daily service and your exercise routine.
I love a two for one. Ultimate multitasking.
EQUIPMENT.
Prepare a bucket for your cleaning stuff.
I use a tiny amount of ammonia and a lot of water in a spray gun.
Rags, towelling is best.
Three plastic bags.
Cream cleanser.
Paper towel.
Window, mirror cleaner.
That's it, keep it simple.
I put the kitchen timer on for thirty minutes and then you are racing the clock.
Promise yourself a break at the end, a cuppa, biscuit.
THE KITCHEN
Start by running a sink full of hot soapy water and soak your dishes.
Spray stovetop, benches, washable surfaces with the Ammonia mix and wipe immediately.
( At Sheraton we used a " pink spray " that we never knew the contents of but we knew it ate into any
cuts we had on our hands )
I use a less toxic spray and it works just as well.
Start in the left hand side of the room and work your way around the room. If you want to, clean light
switches and electric points and dust pictures with one of your rags, slightly dampened with spray.
Don't use a wet cloth, dust and dirt will turn into mud, requiring drying with towelling and it just wastes time.
Work quickly around the room from left to right, placing a plastic bag in the middle of the room for rubbish. Take anything that doesn't belong in the kitchen and put it in a bag.
THE BEDROOM.
Make the bed first as it then is a table to place things on.
Clean from left to right, tidying and wiping as you go.
THE BATHROOM
Spray shower recess with ammonia spray and I turn on a hot shower spray and steam up the room. (You can do this while you make the bed )
Spray hand basin and toilet then grab your rag and wipe hand basin, around the taps and bowl. Dry well.
The dirt in a bathroom comes from a combination of moisture and heat, body oils and hair. Dirt doesn't stick to dry shiny surfaces.
Grab a toilet brush and scrub toilet bowl, inside of lid and inside of the seat
Dry with paper towel and flush it. Check toilet paper is ample.
Wipe top of cistern
( Prisoners in jail grab a bucket of warm soapy water and tip it over the entire toilet ) if you are going to do this wrap old towels around the base.
Check back of the toilet, outside S bend and base for cleanliness. Urine can soak into the concrete base of toilets and in Summer can reek. We have boys and they are not always with their " ai
".
Once a week scrub your shower with a stainless steel scoured. That's for tiles, bases and glass. Load your scourer with some liquid soap or shampoo. Clean the surfaces in a circular notiin. Feel the build up of scum with your hand, most scum is invisible. Dry with towelling.
This method is fine for glass, it won't scratch.
( Soap scum us a build up of body oils, body fat if you want to be pedantic, soaps, shampoos
and shower gels. If you don't remove it once a week it will build up and whiten, looking terrible)
Trust me, sprays that are supposed to just be sprayed on and wiped off will not remove a build up of white soap scum. It's difficult to remove and really does have to be scoured off.
Clean mirrors, ( The Chinese believe that dirty mirrors are unlucky
I hand wash the floor in my bathroom as its only small and we used to do the same at Sheraton. It's a small space to grab a mop bucket and mop for. Save yourself some time here.
Return to kitchen do your dishes, dry and out away.
Vac once a week thoroughly.
Mop kitchen floor if you have to.
Place everything away, empty your rubbish and sit down and have a cuppa,
You have earned it.
