Seeing as there is no Dad around, these 3 teen boys, I hang around them a lot, hovering. They must hate it but between Yvette and I we have to do all the things a Father would normally be doing. You have no idea what a struggle it is to be a woman and having to act like a man. Let's just say it doesn't come naturally.
Every single one of them is the same, we have a teen friend staying as well. They are a walking, mumbling, mass, that eats, drinks and retires to their own room. The internet is always overloaded, I clean at least twenty drink bottles a day. Water, energy drinks, coke, lemonade, juice. Then there is the food and "real food", real food is dim sims, chicken breast tenders, hot chips, donuts, fruit, vegetables, salads.
They eat and eat and eat and drink never putting on an ounce of fat. They are all healthy, tall, polite and shy. They would rather die than make a phone call to anyone, greet someone pleasantly and confidently. They all act like they are docile except for the red head who has enough personality and annoying know it all demeanour to answer the door or anything, really.
They never flush, dribble on the seat, we have a nominated loo for them down the back but do they use it? Of course not. They all sniff the huge Tom when they walk in the door and play with the slothy husky. As the weather gets better we will see them emerging from their rooms, a bit more. Pale from never seeing the sun for 6 months.
Occasionally the oldest one, the never sit still one, will do something wild and underwhelming like steal hub caps or licence plates, but even he has quietened down a lot, lately.
We have to give them all that advice about treating women well. They are pretty good about women. They love and adore their little firebrand of a Mother who spoils them rotten and treats them with the greatest disdain at times. She's a Tiger Mother, just as well for them. They couldn't have had a better Mother.
I've seen her crying into the dish water before on many a long lonely night, talking to herself, almost mad with her love/hate relationship she had with the 5 oldest boys Father. He is a shitheel, he really is.
Always will be, he rang me from Jail yesterday, on something, probably Bupe, and I ranted at him, but do you think he heard or cared ???? He can go to a Rehab in lieu of a sentence, there's a good one at Healesville. I'm not sure how much of his brain is left, I really don't. I feel, the same as the boys do and Yvette.
A mixture of pity, pain, revulsion and wanting to punch his head in. Two of the boys want to be Policemen, how ironic. The first task having to lock up their "old man". Can you imagine ?? But they remain pretty pregmatic, as far as they are concerned he is a "Dick Head" and a pain that breaks promises and is selfish, all the great qualities of the "Junkie"
And yet those boys go on, every day, making something of themselves. Wanting to be the opposite of their Dad. It would have been easy for them to go off the rails, but they didn't. No one smokes, drinks or touches drugs. One is a Father and a good one, Three work and one works and goes to school. Three are top in their grades in Maths. The red head said it's between him and an asian kid for top position but he's sure he will beat him.
Two converse about the 2 nd world war as intelligently as adults and one is a neatness freak. He likes clean, neat and tidy, has a movie collection of over 400 movies, all immaculate. Not one of them curses at their Mother, they wouldn't dare. She only hits in a dire emergency, but she's very vocal. She treats her ex partners with the sort of disdain you can only admire.
So she doesn't allow her "boys" get too Reckless, she gives them a little freedom and then pulls them back if she thinks they are out of order. The oldest once hit his girlfriend , may years ago, so his Mother pasted him. I've punched him once, only once and he will remember it all his life, hopefully. The rest of the time we ignore them when they misbehave and praise them quickly when they do something right. But not too much or they will mess up again. They are after all "Our Boyz To Men" and if we get 70% we think we are doing well.
