Wealth, Arrogance, Kids, Nigella Lawson, Paris Jackson

Without Prejudice

While distressing images of Nigella Lawson get flashed around the world bringing disgust and condemnation for Domestic Violence, I also watched with dismay a show on wealthy kids. I mean the kids of the mega wealthy, kids that have been told they will never have to work for the rest of their lives. Depression, drugs, crimes, misdemeanours were just some of the down sides to their lives. Wealth, immense wealth, more wealth than you and I could ever imagine was their inheritance.

Often they were lonely and isolated at school. One boy didnt find out until he was 12 how immensely wealthy his family was. Another child in his class found an article in the local paper and recognised the last name. The teacher rushed across the room and scanned the paper and from then on the boys life was never the same.

People treated him differently, almost with reverence and he found he could get away with virtual blue murder. One kid spent eight hours doing assignments in his first year at College and the Headmaster still passed him for the year. Excusing his behaviour as natural teenage hi jinks. And in reality knowing how rich the kids parents were and their generous donations to the school.

The kid knew what was happening but was on drugs and literally didnt give a shit. Some of the wealthy kids felt immense guilt about their inheritances, realising that they had done nothing, yet, to deserve it, except for being born wealthy. With poor young Paris Jackson who has just tried to commit suicide, the life she has led up to now is no life any child should have to bear. Her pain is palpable and now the press are saying Michael may not be her biological father.

It seems that wealth does not automatically bring happiness. A study of lotto winners found that on finding out they were winners their happiness hormones were high, but three months later were the same as every other human beings. Faith, family, friends, societal connections were more to do with happiness levels than money.

There were happy wealthy kids, Ivanka Trump was one refreshing wealthy child, but she had been given very little as a child and was expected to work for everything she wanted. The females seemed to be a lot happier than the males. That's possibly because a woman self image is tied up with her body and a males is tied up with his career. If he doesn't need to have a career, where does he get a self image from ?

One Dad said to his son, dismissively

" Be glad you don't have to work, there are millions of people all over the world that would give up work tomorrow, if they didn't need to work"

The boy was confused as he knew he wanted to do something but didn't know what. His Father had never had to work physically but was passionate about his painting. The boy took a year off, went to Mexico and worked physically at minimum wage and absolutely loved it. He realised that working physically was his passion and if he hadn't stepped away for a year would not have discovered that fact.
