She was our fearless leader, a little older than the rest of us child brides. Stunning red head with more balls than we the timid wives had. She lead, we followed.
She was a product of the sixties, a wild child, given to smoking, dieting excessively, playing around with men. A beauty. Her house was a riot of colour, Indian prints, paper lights, muslin sheers. Highly polished floor boards that had been Estapoled twelve times, glowing warm in honeyed tones.
She was a Hippy, wild child, a Priestess of style and outrageous behaviour and we her willing acolytes. I learned so much from her. We wore Peaches jeans and Miller shirts or embroidered tops of cheesecloth. Bought at Venture in Parkmore. Our granny skirts and corduroy pinafores with skivvies underneath. Our cork platforms that we wore everywhere and Dr Scholls in the Summer.
