Albury

Without Prejudice

Yvette moved into the house in Lexton Avenue, a small concrete walled 3 bedroom house, but it wa shers and at last after living with me, she could stretch out and just be herself.

It had a fantastic back yard with an enormous gum, that was always threatening to fall upon the house, but became the boys playground. Swinging off branches and tumbling around in the dirt and scrubby grass.

Across the road was a park which would become the favourite destination of all, especially Bonnie, the German Sheperd pup, who would climb the tree in the park, like a cat and sit on the highest branch, surveying her world.

Jai 7,broke his elbow there trying to emulate the back flip off the picnic table, that Makesso, the tall African brother of Jai's friend Jon, had done.

Jai tried it and crashed on to the ground breaking the elbow and the white bone protruded through his arm. Yvette dashing acroos the road and scooping him up and flying up to Dandenong Hospital Emergency. It was operated on twice, with wire rodsscrews into the bone. Cast and sling being worn for about 8 weeks.

The boys were all fine and soon the ex started calling, he had been on  on the run, Sydney, Qld, Adelaide and wanted Yvette to meet him on the border at Albury. Taking just Kyle, he wanted her to take all of the boys but I didn't trust him.

He had let her down so many times but she still believed, wanted to make it work, one last time, just this once and then it would be all over. Promise.

So the other boys stayed, And Yvette and Kyle went on the trian to Albury to meet with Simon at a motel. Yvette thought she was looking at a Scarecrow when she first saw Simon

He had on  a pair of pants that looked like they had been pinched off someon'e washing line, 10 times too big and held up with a piece of rope.He was as thin as a razor blade, unshaven and shivering. It wasn't long before Yvette spotted the syringe in the rubbish basket.

Wasn't his, he said, and Yvette asked whose it was, then and he mumbled something about a mate. They went off to dinner and Simon had a few drinks and suggested they do a "Fill and split" and Yvette woudn't.

Once they were back at the room, Simon was very agitated and at 11pm wanted Yvette to go with him to Wodonga, acroos the border. He had stolen a car and wanted her to go with him but she remained adamant,
"You go, I'll stay with Kyle"

He had to make Wodonga to get petrol as the car was low and had hoped Yvette was bringing money, car and kids, his plans had to change.

As soon as Yvette heard him leave she picked up the phone and called the Police,
"Hi, my name is Yvette, I have an ex partner heading out of town, he's wanted in Victoria and he will probably be "Pushing" a stolen car.

Which he was, only Simon would be caught "pushing" a stolen car and he was arrested that night and thrown in jail. crying and begging to Yvette for her to bail him and she knew she was saving his life by saying,
"No"

She was a bit upset about it all when she arrived back, a bit dejected, but she knew she had done the right thing. Everyone around her was organising weddings and engagements and she was still with a Man that she hoped would straighten out.
