Bentley Motors Limited is an English manufacturer of luxury cars owned since 1998 byVolkswagen Group. Bentley was founded a few weeks after the Armistice with Germany on 18 January 1919 by W. O. Bentley. Before that Bentley had been known for importing and driving light DFP cars with considerable success and in the first World War for the design of his range of rotary aero-engines, the most famous being the Bentley BR1 as used in later versions of the Sopwith Camel. After that war, W. O. Bentley designed and made production cars that won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1924 and following models which repeated those successes each June 192719281929, and 1930.
Purchased by Rolls-Royce in 1931, when the factory was sold, and production stopped for 2 years, the name alone was used for a Rolls-Royce "silent sports car" made at the Rolls-Royce factory in Derby, and after 1945 in Crewe. The business is now based in Crewe, Cheshire, England, with the Central Production Facilities there. As of November 2012,China is the largest individual market for Bentley automobiles.[10]

It is one of the most luxurious cars ever built. A fusion of old-fashioned handcrafting and 21st Century automotive science. It takes five hundred and fifty hours to create the latest Bentley model...nine weeks' work for a team of artisans and cutting-edge technicians, supported by hi-tech precision robots.

No two Bentleys are the same: their customized features go beyond an extensive palette of color and material options for body, upholstery, wood-paneling ? even seatbelts! You can also have cigar humidors, champagne picnic sets, even Bentley baby-seats and the very latest in armor-plating. Not only is every Bentley unique, each one is likely to outlast the men and women who made it.

Ultimate Factory: Bentley examines the extraordinary efforts that go into one of the most luxurious cars on the planet.

The Mulsanne has an eight speed transmission, burled wood panelling, sourced from the base of Dying trees in a huge root ball, then sliced wafer thin, the pattern matched up, bonded to veneer and hand crafted by five men, one piece taking 7 hours and there are 33pieces to be worked on. The attention to detail is what makes a Bentley a Bentley.

Everything has to be perfect.

It’s been 50 years since Rolls Royce created a new Bentley fit for royalty and rock stars, and it’s a challenge for Bentley’s ultimate factories to construct the Mulsanne, a new design of the luxury car. It takes more than 550 hours and nine weeks for artisans and technicians to create this masterpiece. Precision robots ensure that this two-and-a-half-ton luxury car’s body is flawlessly molded, but the finest leather is hand-sewn for Bentley’s lavish upholstery. And the Bentley Woodshop tackles a centuries-old craft, wood veneering. It takes an hour to craft one wood panel, and the Mulsanne has more than 300!
