Reading Errol Flynn

Without Prejudice

Reading My Wicked,Wicked Ways by Errol Flynn is an eye opener. What a good looking man he was and what a prodigious lover, that's if you can believe it. My older brother doesn't for one. He thinks Mr Flynn exaggerates to a great degree. I don't however.

He obviously was a charmer of a man and maybe a bit of a misogynist. A lover of Women and hater too. Especially of Lili who seems determined to fleece him of everything all of his life. Even when he has clearly moved on.

What prompts a woman to do that ? It;s not like she had heaps of children to him, just the one. Has she no existence outside of him, is she just vindictive? Or nastily ageing with no other income. ? Not wanting to do the work it takes to be yourself, trading in on past glories. She had her chance, why keep on at a Man like that, after so long. ? Determined greedily to get past and future earnings in a stranglehold for him.

He sails on in my memory, a lovely looking man, that was his curse and his blessing. Dying so young when he had so much to live for. Never being able to be faithful, he knew it and yet still he married, again and again. There are Men that should never marry. He was one, he should have stuck to the wild life and not stopped his partying ways. It was as much a part of his persona as his Wicked Wicked Ways.

" He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars and he's trading in tomorrow for today. " So sings Kris Kristofferson, he might as well be talking about Erroll. Alcohol his first love and women his second. He struggled even liking his Mother and she him. That happens. Maybe all his life he was trying to get back in, "like Flynn", a saying he detested.

How misunderstood he feels at the bitter end and I feel sorry for him, but given the same set of circumstances, he would probably do the same. His flag a rampant cock on his ship of fools and ultimate loneliness.

His looks fading, his life snuffed out at such a young age. He remains the towering figure of Captain Blood, the swashbuckling swordsman, the freedom fighter and rabid ne'er do well of fiction. But what a handsome man and misguided man he was. Believing in sex as a cure all and yet suffered from it's diseases.

Interestingly towards the end of the book he states he has two female friends, platonic only. he thinks they are much better friends than his male ones. And he had kept them strictly platonic all of his life. I love that about him. As the male ages he needs the female friends for advice and succour. And that is more important than any love conquest.

Because sex is over rated as my Foster Daughter says, and of course it is. It's over in minutes and commands only the body function. It's healthy and fecund and great but it's not in it for the long haul like friendship is. You can have sex and good sex and not even think about it after. You don't care for that person or even want them, it's just sex.

I just knew he had to be well endowed. so I looked it up on the net. Puerile and curious but I'm not perfect. Yes, he was, now how did I know that ? Because to be a prodigious lover he had to have been told that he was a "Big Man" and woman would not hesitate to tell him. And then word would spread. Looks like he lived by the sword and died by it. Vanity et al !

But friendship you can choose. I was better friends with some of my lovers than a lover of sex. I'm not silly I love sex but it's not the be all and end all. men think it is but then they are just plain daft. A woman would rather have friends when she is older and preferably ones that she doesn't feel coerced into sleeping with, just saying !

She likes the good things in life so unless you have a chocolate penis that ejaculates money,

Ha ha , Only Joking, If I wanted money I wouldn't have thrown my good looking ex hubby out, now would I ????????

Love Janette
