Fresh Mud Crabs For Dinner

Without Prejudice

Queensland Mud Crab

New Zealand Lolly Cake

Lindsay my friend caught 18 mud crabs, we are eating them tonight. He's coy about where he caught them, but it was the Burpengary Creek. There was rain on Saturday night. 100 mm and a King Tide, so he set his pots and caught 18. The small ones he threw back. He had to swim to retrieve the pots and I asked if  he wears a wet suit and he says they are for wimps. We eat them tonight, boiled with 13 heaped tablespoons of salt in boiling water. 13 tablespoons, no more , no less. It's a lucky thing he says.

We have a Chinese Guest and he eats some of the shell. They say in China they must have the best teeth as they crunch into the crab shell, no bother. But there is nothing like fresh Mud Crab  fresh out of the boat and straight onto a plate. We crack the legs and dig in for the tender morsels of crab meat. Bourbons on the side and a bucket to throw the shells in, finger bowls to dip our fingers in and a sigh as we finish, replete.

Then we have New Zealand lamb as Lindsay's wife is a New Zealander, roast vegetables and Lolly Cake, which is also New Zealand.

Mr Lee is delighted with everything, especially the crab. mud Crab fresh is to die for. he comes from Sydney, has a magnificent house there and a wonderful family. We are here to watch the State Of Origin match between Qld And NSW. A home match for the Sydney siders and Mr Lee lives there and is not sure which team to barrack for.You cannot get much more Australian than mud crab and state of origin or Qld anyway. I.m sitting here with a maroons scarf on and I a melbournite, luddite  Lol.
